Barclays has announced the appointment of Urvashi Batra as its Head of Equities Electronic Trading Americas.
Batra will be coming into the new role with her over 13 years of experience in the fintech industry. Following the appointment, she will be reporting to Head of Global Markets Electronic Trading, Peter Ward. The global bank noted that Batra will be responsible for navigating strategic direction while carrying out the electronic equities client offerings of the bank.
She will also be working in collaboration with Barclay’s electronic trading platform, BARK, across FX, Futures, Fixed Income, and Equities to promote global coordination.
Batra Comes With Many Years Of Experience
As noted Earlier, Batra has been in the fintech industry for over a decade where she worked in various capacities across several leading companies.
Before her appointment by Barclays, she was the Managing Director at JP Morgan. Batra spends 11 years with JP Morgan, leading the company to meet several strategic goals in both product and market expansion. Before her stint with JP Morgan, Batra was working as an associate with Bank of America (BoA).
She joined the bank in 2009 and accomplished all the requirements for her role, leaving after 21 months. So, it could be said that her career in the industry took off at BoA. Since then, she has grown in industry experience and strong knowledge about the fintech space.
Barclays Is Determined To Continue Its Growth
The appointment is coming following the fine imposed on Barclays in connection with Premier FX. Yesterday, the U.K. FCA imposed a £783,800 penalty on the UK bank for its oversight failings over its relationship with Premier FX. The bank has voluntarily agreed to cover the losses suffered by clients of the defunct Premier FX.
But the bank seems determined to continue its growth, despite the minor setback. Co-Head of Global Markets at Barclays, Adeel Khan, while commenting on the latest appointment, stated that the company has always focused on investing in key talents.
He noted that Batra’s appointment is evidence of his strong commitment to work with the best in the industry. It’s another important step Barclays has taken to move forward in strengthening its franchise. Khan added that the firm will keep prioritizing digitalization to become an electronic-first Markets business.
